update WordPress is like magic

Upgrading WordPress has always been a hard task. Backup the database, backup the files, delete some old files, copy in the new files but not overwriting any changes, download and review the plugins as those are always updated too and so on. I always spend an hour or so upgrading the WordPress installation. With 2.7 the developers built in a new feature: automated upgrade of both WordPress itself and the plugins.

Although I’m not a big fan of automated upgrades and always try to look behind the code and copy files by myself, I’ve done the magic today. It’s really easy. You just click some buttons and the WordPress engine will download the plugin from the plugin directory, extract the files and upgrade them. All in one step, without problems. WordPress also asked me if I want to install the German or the English version of the main code. Now I just have to backup the files from my webserver to my local backup copy and make a database backup once in a while.

Congratulations WordPress developers, you created a terrific peace of code.
